The Parole Commissioners for Northern Ireland operate under a number of legislative frameworks namely:
- Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001
- Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland) Order 2008
- Parole Commissioners' Rules 2009
Since the devolution of policing and justice functions in Northern Ireland which took effect on 12th April 2010, the legislation relating to the Parole Commissioners work has been amended to reflect the transfer of powers to the Department of Justice.
